Already On January 8th Pärnu Tennis Hall will host the first street dance championship of the new year, the Back To The Basics Battle, and On 9 January, the Estonian breakdancing championships will be held in Tallinn. On both days, the competitors will be judged by Kevin Gopie, aka Renegade, who has been involved in the street dance scene for over 40 years and is a world-renowned dancer, coach and DJ.
Renegade started street dancing in 1982. and found his heart in the dance styles of pop punk and break. Four years later, his DJ journey began and he now plays music at all the top street dance competitions such as the UK B-boy Championships, IBE, Battle of the Year, R16 Korea, Freestyle Session, Juste Debout, Redbull BC One, EuroBattle, Outbreak and Silverback Open. Renegade has played such an important role in the music scene that it has had a major influence on the way music is chosen and played at street dance events today.
Renegade has been a major driving force in the development of breakdancing, both at home in England and around the world. He is the founder of the UK B-Boy Championsips, and coach and mentor of the famous dance groups Soul Maverick and Monsterz. In addition, Renegade is a frequent referee at major competitions, participates in discussions and seminars, and was a lecturer in urban dance at the University of East London (UEL).
Renegade has played a very important role in the creation and development of the scoring system for breakdance. Together with another well-known street dancer, Niels “Storm” Robitzky, he created the Three Fold and Trivium scoring systems for judges, which have been adopted by the World Dance Dance Federation (WDDF). The Trivium evaluation system was also used in the 2018 breiktants. in the Youth Olympic Games.
